There are few sights to beat the tranquil deep blue River Mandovi
as she greets you with the morning sun slanting off her sparkling
water. Canny guests of Panaji Residency select the river facing
rooms well in advance and they all agree that there is something
about this view that makes them come back to this hotel time after
time.
Maybe it’s the view, maybe it’s the people who keep
this hotel and its 45 rooms running efficiently; maybe it’s
the easy availability of a business centre on the ground floor;
the shopping arcade, Aparant the handicrafts store with only Goan
handicraft items made by Goan artists on display; may be its beauty
parlour.
Or it could be Ruchira the multi-cuisine restaurant that serves
a mouth watering array of delicious fare and the best liquors at
its well-stocked bar. A definite sign about the quality of food
in an establishment would be the percentage of locals who have their
meals there. Ruchira always has a large number of local Panjimites
queuing up a meal. You cannot fool the Goan foodie. If he comes
back to a restaurant, you know the food is great.
Guests say it’s a combination of everything that makes Panjim
Residency hard to beat. This comes from 40 years of providing a
home away from home for innumerable guests, right in the centre
of the most happening city of Goa – its capital Panjim/ Panaji.
Situated just a short walk away from offices, shopping arcades,
the bus terminus and the river cruise boats, you have everything
you want at the Panaji Residency. Though, we must warn you that
it will be difficult getting out of your comfortable bed in the
morning and leaving that wonderful view.
This river changes constantly with fishing craft bouncing restlessly
at the jetty across the water, a passenger ferry chugging across
from beautiful Betim to the capital city, occasionally a barge will
sail importantly down the river laden with its red gold of iron
ore and beautiful yachts from all over the world touch base at the
Panjim Jetty to rest and refuel their energy for another adventure
across the seven seas
Around Hotel Panjim Residency GTDC Goa:
There’s a lot to do in Panjim. It’s a walker’s
city. A short stroll across the road and over the New Patto Bridge
will bring you to the river cruise boats which will take you on
an unforgettable journey up and down the tranquil Mandovi River.
The Adil Shah Palace which housed the Secretariat of the Government
of Goa is another short stroll to the left. Further in is the calm
buzz of the church square dominated by the Immaculate Conception
Church. Half a minute's walk away is the Jama Masjid and two minutes
away from the masjid is the Mahalaxmi Temple.
You can avail of the daily sightseeing tours or browse the sunny
lanes of Panaji city, or go for long leisurely walks along the boulevarde
all the way to Kala Academy and take in a play or a concert. The
latest movies are shown at the INOX Multiplex. The Panjim Market
is worth a visit, for its colour, noise and a close look at the
unique fisherwomen who reign supreme over the seafood they sell
– a food item that Goans prize more than gold and jewels.
You can hop on to a bus at the Kadamba Bus Terminus and go anywhere
in Goa, just make certain you find out the timings of the return
trip
